Sergio Messina

Sergio Messina is staff researcher at INAF-Catania Astrophysical Observatory since 2000.

He attended the Faculty of Physics at the University of Catania, obtaining the Degree in Physics with 110/110 magna cum laude in 1993.

Then, he obtained his PhD in Physics at the University of Catania in 1998 and since 2000 he has been permanent Researcher Astronomer at INAF – Italian National Institute of Astrophysics, based at the Catania Astrophysical Observatory.

His research interests are stellar astronomy, in particular formation and evolution of low-mass young stars, magnetic activity, research and characterization of exo-planets. 

He is actively involved in the Gaia (as a member of the CU7 – Variability processing) and PLATO space missions (as leader of the WP123500) of ESA (European Space Agency). 

He also carries out research and dissemination on climate change.
