Before joining the team in Catania, he was a postdoc at the Space Telescope Science Institute in Baltimore, MD, USA. He obtained his MA in Astrophysics and Space Physics at the University of Milano-Bicocca and later his PhD at the University of Aix-Marseille.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"212\" height=\"225\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gaps.inaf.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/giovanni-bruno.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-161\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Giovanni Bruno \u2013 INAF OACT<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>His main research interests revolve around the observational study of extrasolar planets, their atmospheres, and the effect of stellar activity on transit photometry and low-resolution transmission spectroscopy. This led him to conduct specific studies dedicated to CoRoT, Hubble, and the soon-to-be-launched James Webb Space Telescope.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He currently works on cool, possibly planet-hosting stars using the CHEOPS space telescope. As a member of the Ariel collaboration, he contributes to the characterisation of the reference sample using spectroscopic and machine-learning methods; as part of the GAPS consortium, he focuses on the relationship between host stars and their planets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He is actively engaged in the outreach activities organised by the Observatory, and enjoys bringing the discussion to the search for life in the universe and human space travel.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Giovanni Bruno is a postdoc at INAF \u2013 Catania Astrophysical Observatory.
